DWS to Hand Over R55m Upgraded Wastewater Infrastructure in Jan Kempdorp, Northern Cape
The Department of Water and Sanitation will hand over refurbished wastewater infrastructure to Phokwane Local Municipality in Jan Kempdorp on March 22, 2026. The R55 million project aims to improve sanitation services for over 8,300 residents and over 2,000 households, addressing sewage spillages and enabling future development. On March 22, 2026, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) will hand over a newly refurbished wastewater pump station and outfall line in Jan Kempdorp to Phokwane Local Municipality. This R55 million upgrade, funded through the Water Services Infrastructure Grant, will improve sanitation for over 8,300 residents and more than 2,000 households.
The project addresses sewage overflow issues that arose from increased land use without adequate infrastructure upgrades. The refurbishment includes a new pump station and mainline designed to handle current and future sewer inflows. The handover coincides with World Water Day, which focuses on sustainable water management and sanitation.
