Two employees of El Paso Electric sustained injuries during maintenance work, with one requiring airlift to a burn center. The incident occurred prior to power outages affecting over 5,200 customers in East El Paso.

On April 15, two El Paso Electric employees were injured while working on electric lines at the Montwood substation. One employee was airlifted to a burn center in Lubbock, Texas, while another was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
The injuries coincided with significant power outages reported around 10:50 a.m., affecting 5,237 customers due to an arc flash on a distribution line. The most impacted areas included Horizon City, with 3,075 customers, and near Cielo Vista Mall, affecting 1,787 customers.
Power was restored by El Paso Electric crews before 1 p.m. The correlation between the incident and the outages remains unclear.
