EPFL Donates Helvetios Supercomputer to Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina
EPFL has donated its Helvetios Supercomputer to Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, significantly enhancing its computing capacity. This initiative aligns with EPFL's sustainability strategy by extending the lifecycle of computing infrastructure while minimizing environmental impact.

The Helvetios Supercomputer, previously utilized by EPFL, is now being donated to Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC) in Argentina, tripling the university's computing capacity. This transition includes 288 compute nodes, each with dual Intel Xeon Gold 6140 processors, totaling a peak performance of 763 TFLOPs across 10,368 processing cores and 54 TiB of RAM.
The donation is part of EPFL's sustainability efforts to reuse computing resources, developed in collaboration with EcoCloud. Significant transport logistics were involved, supported by UNC’s Rectorate, ensuring the equipment arrived in excellent condition. The project's success could serve as a model for future infrastructure management, addressing the need for modern computing facilities in Latin America.
