ESA's CyberCUBE Satellite Launched by SpaceX, Managed by Romanian Company GMV
On July 7, 2026, ESA's CyberCUBE satellite was launched to validate cybersecurity measures for European spacecraft. This mission, managed by GMV Romania, marks a significant milestone as the first ESA mission fully led by a Romanian company.

The European Space Agency's CyberCUBE satellite was successfully launched into low Earth orbit on July 7, 2026, from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, via a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The mission, with a budget of approximately €1.9 million, is expected to operate for at least twelve months and aims to test cybersecurity protocols against jamming and spoofing threats.
GMV Romania acted as the prime contractor, managing the entire mission lifecycle, marking a historic first for Romania in ESA missions. The satellite serves as an orbital laboratory for ESA's Cybersecurity Operations Centre, enabling real-world testing of data monitoring and security tools.
Daily operations will transition to ESA's center in Redu, Belgium, after initial validation by GMV. This development highlights Romania's growing role in the European space sector and the increasing emphasis on cybersecurity in satellite operations.
