Estonia Launches Reverse Auction for Onshore Wind Power with €20/MWh Support
Estonia's government has initiated a reverse auction for onshore wind power, offering a maximum subsidy of €20 per MWh for up to 12 years. The auction allows for an annual volume of one terawatt-hour, potentially increasing to two. Bids must be submitted by August 25, 2026, with results expected by the end of the year. A modeling study indicates that achieving 80% renewable energy would require at least 100 new wind turbines. Last year, renewable energy constituted 68% of Estonia's electricity production.

Estonia's reverse auction for onshore wind power has launched with an annual volume of one terawatt-hour and a potential increase to two. The government will provide support for 12 years post-completion at a maximum of €20 per MWh, with no payments during periods when electricity prices exceed €45 per MWh.
Bids, due by August 25, 2026, will be ranked by the lowest subsidy rate. A study suggests that to reach 80% renewable energy, at least 100 new wind turbines are needed. Last year, renewable energy accounted for 68% of total production in Estonia.
