ETH Zürich and IBM Collaborate on Quantum Computing Research
ETH Zürich and IBM have launched a decade-long partnership to develop algorithms for quantum computing and AI, with funding in the tens of millions to support two research teams. This collaboration aims to advance capabilities in quantum technology, which could significantly outpace traditional computing methods.

ETH Zürich and IBM have announced a ten-year partnership focused on developing quantum computing algorithms and their applications in artificial intelligence. Funding for the initiative is expected to reach the tens of millions, enabling projects involving approximately forty researchers.
Quantum computing leverages qubits, which can represent multiple states simultaneously, enhancing computational efficiency compared to classical binary systems. This partnership addresses the potential threats posed by quantum capabilities, especially concerning data security.
IBM aims to build the first error-free quantum computer by 2029, a challenging goal given the instability of qubits. Continued development of quantum-resistant encryption methods is also a priority for IBM's Rüschlikon center.
