Ethereum Foundation Unveils 2026 Roadmap for Gas Scaling and Quantum Security

QUANTUM COMPUTING

The Ethereum Foundation's 2026 roadmap sets goals for increasing network throughput and security, particularly against quantum computing threats. The roadmap follows 2025's achievements, including doubling blob throughput and enhancing mainnet gas limits from 30M to 60M.

Development is organized into three tracks: Scale (aiming for gas limits above 100M), Improve UX (focusing on account abstraction and cross-L2 interoperability), and Harden the L1 (emphasizing post-quantum cryptography and execution-layer security). Two major upgrades, Glamsterdam and Hegotá, will introduce higher gas limits and enhanced security. Additionally, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin envisions integrating AI with Ethereum to support decentralized AI interactions and economic activities.
