Ethiopian Land Restoration Projects Selected for UK-backed CAPE Accelerator Programme
Three community-based land restoration projects from Ethiopia have been selected by the Carbon Accelerator Programme for the Environment (CAPE), a UK-supported initiative aimed at mobilizing investment for emissions reduction and ecosystem restoration. The projects, AfriScout Regen, Chifra Landscape Restoration Project, and The People's Chaka, will receive advisory support to achieve investment readiness. CAPE focuses on equitable financing structures benefiting local communities through carbon credit sales linked to ecosystem restoration.

Three Ethiopian projects have been selected for the Carbon Accelerator Programme for the Environment (CAPE), backed by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The projects, AfriScout Regen, Chifra Landscape Restoration Project, and The People's Chaka, will receive support to become investment-ready.
CAPE, launched in November 2024, aims to enhance Africa's nature-based carbon markets. AfriScout Regen focuses on restoring 1.3 million hectares of rangelands using adaptive grazing practices and technology.
Chifra aims to restore over 100,000 hectares through Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration techniques. The People's Chaka targets 7,000 hectares to reverse deforestation and strengthen rural livelihoods. The selected projects demonstrate potential for climate, biodiversity, and economic benefits.
