EU Grants €288m for Semiconductor Development in Germany
The European Commission has sanctioned €288m in state aid for two semiconductor projects in Germany to enhance the EU's global semiconductor presence. This funding aligns with the EU Chips Act's goal of achieving a 20% market share by 2030.

The European Commission approved €288m in state aid for two semiconductor projects in Germany, comprising €222m for Carl Zeiss's EUV optical column facility in Oberkochen and €66m for Zadient's high-purity SiC production in Bitterfeld. These projects aim to strengthen the EU's semiconductor value chain and support advancements in microchip technology.
The EU Chips Act, initiated in February 2022, seeks to boost the EU's semiconductor market share to 20% by 2030, mobilizing €43bn in investments. The funding includes a total of about €13.9bn from prior measures, reflecting ongoing efforts towards sustainable semiconductor production.
