EU Supports Port Expansion for CO2 Storage Facility in Aalborg
The Port of Aalborg is expanding its quay by 500 meters and 60,000 square meters to accommodate two CO2 ships simultaneously. This expansion is part of the infrastructure for North Jutland's first large-scale CO2 reception facility, funded by the EU through the Connecting Europe Facility. The project is part of the Norne Carbon Storage Hub, recognized as an EU Project of Common Interest, and is expected to be completed by 2027. The new area will support green industry and heavy industry activities.

The Port of Aalborg is undergoing a quay expansion that includes 500 meters of new quay and approximately 60,000 square meters of quay area to enable simultaneous docking of two CO2 vessels. This infrastructure is crucial for North Jutland's first large-scale CO2 reception facility, which is supported by the EU via the Connecting Europe Facility as part of the Norne Carbon Storage Hub project. The expansion is slated for completion in 2027 and will also enhance the port's capacity for green and heavy industrial activities, aligning with the state-designated Aalborg Industrial Park focused on green production and energy technology.
