ExxonMobil's Carbon Sequestration Project Receives BLM Approval
ExxonMobil's Shute Creek 7-34 carbon storage project has been approved by the Bureau of Land Management, enabling the permanent sequestration of CO2. This initiative is significant for local economic stability and environmental management in Wyoming's Lincoln and Sweetwater Counties.

The Bureau of Land Management has approved ExxonMobil's Shute Creek 7-34 project for carbon dioxide sequestration in Wyoming. The project involves the construction of a disposal well pad and an 8-inch pipeline extending over 12 miles, aimed at trapping CO2 from the Shute Creek Gas Plant at depths exceeding 18,000 feet.
The project has state approval as a Class II disposal well and is expected to employ an average workforce of 75 during construction, with peak employment of 160. The local economy, heavily reliant on oil and gas, will continue to be supported, as these sectors account for approximately 34% of labor income and over 33% of sales tax revenue.
