Federal Funding Allocated for Small Modular Reactor Deployment in the US
The US Department of Energy has awarded over USD 94 million to eight companies to accelerate the deployment of advanced small modular reactors (SMRs). This funding addresses barriers in licensing, supply chain, and site readiness, positioning the US for significant growth in nuclear energy capabilities.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has allocated over USD 94 million to eight companies to support the deployment of Generation III+ small modular reactors (SMRs). This funding is part of a broader effort, initiated in October 2024, aimed at overcoming barriers that hinder nuclear plant deployments, with a total funding of up to USD 800 million planned.
Key recipients include Constellation SMR Development LLC, Nebraska Public Power District, and BWXT Nuclear Energy Inc, each receiving substantial funds for site permits and supply chain development. Approximately 50% of the funding is dedicated to site selection and preparation, while additional investments target manufacturing capabilities for reactor components. The focus on SMRs aligns with government initiatives to enhance US energy independence and expand nuclear capacity, potentially impacting the energy market significantly.
