FedEx Partners with Robotics Firms to Enhance Warehouse Automation
FedEx has chosen a partnership strategy for automation, collaborating with Berkshire Grey to develop robots for bulk unloading. This approach aims to improve operational efficiency while prioritizing worker safety in demanding tasks.

FedEx has initiated a multi-year partnership with Berkshire Grey to develop robots for bulk package unloading, set to pilot later this year. The focus is on automating physically demanding tasks to enhance safety and efficiency within its warehouses.
FedEx also collaborates with other robotics firms like Dexterity and Nimble, as well as autonomous delivery companies such as Aurora Innovation and Nuro, though the latter shifted to licensing technology in 2025. The company aims to integrate new technologies thoughtfully, emphasizing the need for practical solutions that complement human workers over pursuing proprietary tech. This calculated strategy could mitigate risks associated with hasty automation adoption.
