Finland Launches Heinineva Solar Park to Enhance Energy System Flexibility
Finland's Heinineva solar park, built on a former peat site, integrates advanced automation and system integration to transform solar power into an active, controllable resource for the grid. ABB provides an electrification and automation solution, including a solar park controller based on the ZEE600 platform, enabling real-time data analysis and optimization of energy production. The project aims to strengthen the energy system's resilience and efficiency as Finland pursues carbon neutrality by 2035.

The Heinineva solar park in Lapua, Finland, features approximately 123,000 solar panels and showcases how solar energy can evolve from a weather-dependent resource to an actively managed component of the energy grid. ABB has supplied a comprehensive electrification and automation solution, which includes a solar park controller on the ZEE600 platform, allowing for real-time data collection and integration with SCADA systems.
Additionally, the project includes EcoFlex container transformer stations, medium voltage switchgear, and innovative rotating solar panels to maximize energy output. Finland's solar initiative aligns with its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.
