Finnish Data Center Growth Expected to Consume 5% of National Electricity by 2030
By 2030, Finnish data centers are estimated to consume 5% of the country's electricity, requiring 1200 megawatts. This demand is seen as manageable, especially as Finland can build new electricity generation capacity cost-effectively if needed.
Current data centers use 285 megawatts, with demand expected to rise to 480 megawatts by year-end. Investments in the sector have reached eight billion euros, with an additional potential of 24 billion euros in future projects.
However, there is a recognized shortage of skilled labor necessary for data center operations, which may impact growth. Furthermore, the integration of waste heat from data centers into district heating networks is being explored.
