Floating Solar Panels to Power Dannevirke Wastewater Plant and Aid Local Community
Dannevirke Wastewater Treatment Plant will install floating solar panels, projected to save $50,000 annually on energy costs. Excess energy generated will support local families facing energy poverty, impacting 30 to 40 households.

The Dannevirke Wastewater Treatment Plant is set to implement floating solar panels on pond four, which will significantly reduce its energy expenditure. This facility is noted as the second floating solar initiative in New Zealand, with plans to address its status as a major electricity consumer among council facilities.
Excess energy produced will benefit community members in need, with an estimated 30 to 40 homes receiving support through a designated trust. A grant from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has facilitated this project. Future enhancements may include battery storage to bolster energy resilience and further lower operational costs.
