FLS Group and Cula Implement Independent Sampling Protocol for Biochar Projects in Paraguay
FLS Group AG and Cula have partnered to enhance the monitoring of biochar carbon removal projects by introducing independent sampling protocols. This initiative aims to address conflicts of interest in biochar sampling by ensuring third-party collection of samples at Project Alfheim in Paraguay. The protocol includes unannounced sampling and digital traceability to strengthen the credibility of carbon removals.

FLS Group AG and Cula have formed a partnership to improve monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) for biochar carbon removals by implementing independent sampling protocols. The initiative addresses a conflict of interest where project developers control the selection of biochar samples for testing.
The new protocol will debut at Project Alfheim in Paraguay, requiring independent third-party collection of samples at defined intervals with unannounced site visits. This will ensure a robust audit trail and improve the credibility of biochar projects. FLS plans to adopt these measures across future projects.
