Freeport Indonesia to Restart Grasberg Block Cave Production in Two to Three Weeks
Freeport Indonesia plans to restart production at the Grasberg Block Cave mine within two to three weeks following a landslide on September 8, 2025, which halted operations and resulted in seven fatalities. The phased ramp-up will begin with blocks 2 and 3, with block 1 production expected to commence next year. The company aims to produce 1.1 billion pounds of copper and 800,000 ounces of gold in 2026, with stabilizing operations as a top priority.

Freeport Indonesia is set to resume production at the Grasberg Block Cave underground mine in two to three weeks after a landslide on September 8, 2025, which caused the death of seven workers and halted operations.
