FrieslandCampina Invests €10 Million in Energy Efficient Cooling System at Lummen Facility
FrieslandCampina has launched a €10 million ice-water installation at its Lummen facility, enhancing sustainability and efficiency. The new system reduces electricity use by up to 50% and energy costs by 12%, equating to the annual power consumption of 600 households. The switch to CO₂ refrigerant improves workplace safety and aligns with future regulations. The project involved 200 employees and supports climate goals for 2030. Additional efficiency gains are anticipated with the installation of heat pumps later this year.

FrieslandCampina has completed a €10 million ice-water installation at its Lummen production facility to enhance sustainability and operational efficiency. The new system reduces electricity consumption by up to 50% and lowers energy costs by 12%, equivalent to the annual energy use of approximately 600 households.
The transition from ammonia to CO₂ refrigerant improves workplace safety and meets future regulatory standards. The project involved around 200 employees and contributes to FrieslandCampina's climate targets for 2030. Additional improvements, including heat pumps for residual heat recovery, are expected later this year.
