GCC and CIFOR-ICRAF Sign MoU for Climate Solutions Development
The Global Carbon Council and CIFOR-ICRAF have formalized a partnership to enhance nature-based climate solutions and carbon market integrity. This collaboration is crucial as investment in nature-based initiatives remains significantly lower than in harmful environmental activities.

The Global Carbon Council (GCC) and the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance nature-based climate solutions and reinforce carbon market frameworks. This partnership aims to facilitate policy dialogue, capacity development, and knowledge sharing to support voluntary and compliance carbon markets.
The organizations will explore nature-based approaches at the intersection of climate risk and development challenges, collaborating with universities and regional players. According to UNEP, US$220 billion was invested in nature-based initiatives in 2023, contrasted with US$7.3 trillion for nature-negative activities. The collaboration could enhance transparency in carbon markets, potentially increasing public and private investment in environmental protection.
