GCC and TERI Launch India's First Digital Carbon Marketplace for Clean Energy Projects
The Global Carbon Council (GCC) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish India's first digital carbon marketplace for household clean energy projects under the LaBL 2.0 initiative. This partnership aims to unlock carbon finance for Distributed Renewable Energy solutions in underserved communities, allowing small-scale climate actions to generate tradable carbon credits. The initiative will enhance access to clean energy, support rural livelihoods, and serve as a model for other developing countries.

The Global Carbon Council (GCC) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) have signed an MoU to create India's first digital carbon marketplace focused on household clean energy projects. This initiative, part of TERI's LaBL 2.0 program, aims to facilitate carbon finance for Distributed Renewable Energy solutions, enabling rural communities to convert small-scale clean energy actions into tradable carbon credits.
The partnership will develop a digital Energy Access and Carbon Marketplace to streamline project aggregation and carbon credit generation while engaging with Indian government institutions for potential recognition under compliance markets. TERI will lead capacity-building efforts to ensure community participation and project sustainability, with broader implications for other developing countries looking to connect local climate actions with international carbon markets.
