George Town Upgrades Flood Retention Pond for RM6.3 Million

The S18 Flood Retention Pond upgrade in George Town, costing RM6.3 million, is projected for completion by June 19. This initiative will enhance flood management for more than 39,550 residents by upgrading three pump units, the pond structure, and conducting desilting to increase capacity.
The project addresses frequent flash floods exacerbated by the ageing infrastructure and heavy rainfall conditions. The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation aims to bolster nationwide water-related disaster mitigation efforts, crucial for public safety amid climate change risks.
