Germany Allocates €70 Million for Low-Emission Inland Shipping Initiatives

Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport has initiated a funding program, making €70 million available for low- and zero-emission inland shipping developments. The funding will cover the installation of cleaner propulsion systems on both new and existing vessels and establish necessary infrastructure such as charging and refueling stations for alternative fuels like hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol.

Additionally, it will support renewable electricity and hydrogen production facilities, including storage and mobile supply systems at various transshipment locations. Applications for the first funding call will open on August 17, with the deadline to be announced later. This program may significantly enhance the competitiveness of the inland shipping sector and increase traffic on Germany's waterways.
