Ghana Advances Carbon Market Readiness with Training for Professionals
Ghana is bolstering its involvement in international carbon markets by offering a master class for nearly 50 professionals from Ghana and Nigeria, focusing on the development, registration, and trading of carbon credits. This initiative aims to equip participants with essential skills to engage in both compliance and voluntary carbon markets, addressing knowledge gaps that have limited African nations' participation. Ghana's established Carbon Market Office and successful transfer of Authorised Emission Reductions under the Paris Agreement are drawing interest from other African countries seeking to replicate its framework.

Ghana is enhancing its capacity for participation in international carbon markets through a master class designed to train professionals in developing, registering, and trading carbon credits. Nearly 50 participants from Ghana and Nigeria are enrolled in this second training session.
The initiative aims to equip individuals and institutions with the necessary technical skills to engage effectively in carbon markets, which present opportunities for revenue generation and renewable energy technology attraction. Ghana has established a Carbon Market Office and has experience in transferring its first Authorised Emission Reductions to Switzerland under the Paris Agreement.
The training covers compliance and voluntary carbon markets, the technical requirements for tradable carbon credits, and aims to bridge knowledge gaps that have hindered African nations' participation in these markets. Ghana's efforts are drawing interest from other African countries looking to learn from its framework.
