Glencore Advances Mount Isa Copper Smelter Rebricking Program
Glencore's Mount Isa Mines has initiated a rebricking program for its copper smelter, with significant maintenance completed and further works planned for late 2026 and early 2027. This project is supported by a $600 million investment from the Federal and Queensland governments to sustain operations.

Glencore has completed maintenance on Refractory Holding Furnace No. 1 (RHF1) at Mount Isa Mines, utilizing 29,500 bricks weighing 242 tonnes. The project continues with RHF2 rebricking later this year and the ISASMELT furnace in early 2027.
The initiative is part of a broader agreement with government entities to fund operations for another three years. The smelter was shutdown for about four months due to copper concentrate supply issues caused by a severe wet season in North-West Queensland.
Glencore's workforce collaborated with specialists to ensure the project was executed without injuries. This ongoing investment is crucial for maintaining production capacity in a challenging market.
