Global CCS Investment Reaches $6.6 Billion in 2025, 59% Increase from 2024
Global investment in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology is projected to reach $6.6 billion in 2025, reflecting a 59% increase from $4.1 billion in 2024, according to BloombergNEF. Despite this growth, 2025 investment remains significantly below the record of $13.6 billion set in 2023.
Europe, the Middle East, and Africa will account for 86% of global investments, approximately $5.7 billion, with Qatar and Saudi Arabia contributing nearly half. Norway and the UK follow with investments of $805 million and $786 million, respectively.
The US has withdrawn $2.2 billion in funding for CCS projects, while Canadian investments are stagnant due to regulatory uncertainties. India has proposed a $2.2 billion program to accelerate carbon capture technology across five major emitting sectors. The report emphasizes the importance of stable policy support for CCS investment and highlights ongoing challenges in the sector.
