GlobalWafers Plans Capacity Expansion in US to Meet AI Demand
GlobalWafers Corp is expanding its silicon wafer production capacity in the US due to strong demand driven by AI applications. The company anticipates uneven growth in the silicon wafer sector this year, with increased customer inventories stimulating demand.
In Texas, the first-phase production line began output last year, but inquiries for a second phase have arisen due to insufficient capacity. The Texas facility can expand up to six phases. Additionally, a smaller plant in Missouri is being expanded to produce float-zone silicon wafers for AI and quantum computing. Revenue is expected to grow this year, with quarterly increases projected, despite a 3.24% revenue decline last year to NT$60.6 billion.
