GM Leads $60M Investment in Mitra Chem for EV Battery Innovation
General Motors is spearheading a $60 million Series B funding round for Mitra Chem, aiming to enhance affordable EV battery technology. This partnership will focus on developing advanced cathode materials to support GM's Ultium Platform and strengthen the U.S. battery supply chain.

General Motors is leading a $60 million Series B investment in Mitra Chem, a Silicon Valley innovator specializing in AI-driven battery materials. This funding aims to expedite the commercialization of affordable electric vehicle batteries, particularly through the development of iron-based cathode active materials such as lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP).
Mitra Chem's advanced research facility can test thousands of cathode designs monthly, significantly reducing time-to-market for new battery formulations. GM's investment will enhance its focus on critical battery technology areas, while also supporting U.S.-made battery supply chain initiatives. The collaboration could impact the EV market by facilitating the rapid deployment of cost-effective battery technologies.
