Greece's Achilles' Shield Program Attracts Global Defense Firms with €3B Investment
The Achilles' Shield program in Greece, valued at nearly €3 billion, is generating considerable interest from both domestic and international defense companies. This initiative aims to enhance national security while boosting local industry through co-production and technology transfer.

Greece's Achilles' Shield program is a major defense initiative estimated at €3 billion, designed to create a multi-layered air and missile defense system. The Ministry of National Defense plans to allocate at least 25% of the program's value for domestic industry participation to retain economic benefits within Greece.
Initial deployment will focus on strategic areas, including Thrace and the Eastern Aegean. Major local firms, such as ELVO, are positioning themselves for roles in military vehicles and integrated defense systems, while global defense leaders like Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems are targeting long-range and medium-range missile defense solutions. The emphasis on innovative technologies is expected to enhance Greece's self-reliance in defense capabilities.
