Gwangmyeong City Launches Korea's First Carbon Trading Platform for Greenhouse Gas Reduction
Gwangmyeong City is establishing South Korea's first carbon trading platform aimed at generating revenue from greenhouse gas reductions. The initiative includes consulting services for carbon credit issuance and a platform for transparent trading. The project is set to be completed by the second half of 2026, supported by funds from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. The city aims to start full-scale operations next year and promote additional smart services for a sustainable carbon-neutral ecosystem.

Gwangmyeong City will create South Korea's first carbon trading platform to monetize greenhouse gas reduction efforts. On February 5, the city initiated the project, which will include consulting for carbon credit issuance and a trading platform.
This project aims to facilitate local carbon reduction activities in the voluntary carbon market, creating a cycle where reductions lead to further carbon neutrality investments. The platform and consulting services will support the complex certification and verification processes. Gwangmyeong plans to complete the system by the second half of 2026, with full-scale operations expected to start next year, alongside the development of smart services including a renewable energy power plant.
