Hanwha Withdraws from Paulsboro Shipyard Deal Amid Holt Logistics Opposition
Hanwha has shifted focus to southern states for its $5 billion shipbuilding investment after failing to secure a lease in Paulsboro, New Jersey. The decision follows legal challenges from Holt Logistics, which disrupted plans to revitalize the port facility for shipbuilding and create up to 1,000 jobs.

Hanwha is now pursuing opportunities in southern states after abandoning plans for the Paulsboro facility in New Jersey due to opposition from Holt Logistics. The company had aimed to utilize the vacated site, which previously supported offshore wind projects, to support U.S.
Navy contracts and create up to 1,000 jobs. Despite federal and state backing, including a $110 million allocation in the fiscal year 2026 military budget, Holt Logistics filed a lawsuit to block Hanwha's lease takeover.
New Jersey has invested over $500 million in the Paulsboro site to attract jobs, yet the anticipated industrial employment has not materialized. The ongoing competition for space and investment may impact regional economic growth and job creation in the shipbuilding sector.
