Heartland Fabrication in Brownsville is undertaking a $65 million expansion projected to create over 100 new jobs, increasing its workforce from 420 to between 520 and 550 workers. The upgrades, scheduled to be completed over two years, will enhance production efficiency, reducing barge construction time from 32 to 24 hours and improving overall manufacturing processes through automation.
This expansion also highlights the importance of the domestic steel industry, as the company utilizes American steel for its barges. The project aligns with efforts to strengthen local manufacturing and workforce development, reflecting the need for advanced technology and robotics in large-scale operations.
