ICAR Launches ACASA Portal to Support Farmers in Adapting to Climate Change Risks
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has launched the ACASA portal to help farmers tackle climate-related challenges, complementing the National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) program. The initiative includes workshops and stakeholder engagement to promote climate-resilient technologies, alongside the development of 11 new crop varieties and plans for a carbon trading platform in India. Additionally, farmers may earn carbon credits for adopting eco-friendly practices, enhancing the sustainability of agriculture in the region.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has launched the ACASA portal to assist farmers in addressing weather-related challenges. This initiative aligns with the National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) program, initiated in 2011, which has improved productivity in rainfed areas and mitigated climate change effects.
The ACASA project will facilitate stakeholder engagement and workshops to integrate climate-resilient technologies with adaptation strategies. ICAR has developed 11 climate-resilient crop varieties and is assessing the carbon footprints of various crops, with plans for farmers to earn carbon credits for eco-friendly practices. Additionally, there are proposals to establish a carbon trading platform in India within five years, aiming to expand climate-resilient agriculture initiatives beyond individual farms.
