IIIT Dharwad to Launch India's First Commercial Quantum Computer in Collaboration with QpiAI

QUANTUM COMPUTING

The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Dharwad (IIIT-D) will deploy India's first commercial quantum computer at its Centre for Excellence in Quantum AI and Computing. This initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in July 2025 between IIIT-D and Bengaluru-based startup QpiAI.

Karnataka IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge announced the government's commitment to advancing the state's quantum roadmap through partnerships with companies like QpiAI. The startup, founded in 2019, plans to scale its quantum computing capacity from 25 qubits to 1,000 qubits within the next two to three years. Additionally, Karnataka's July 2025 quantum mission, with a budget of Rs 1,000 crore, aims to support startups and quantum skills development.
