IIM Bangalore Hosts Roundtable to Design Open Network for Carbon Markets Ahead of Carbon Credit Trading System Launch
IIM Bangalore's Centre for Digital Public Goods held a roundtable on March 19, 2026, to design an Open Network for Carbon Markets (ONCM) as India prepares for its Carbon Credit Trading System. The ONCM aims to address barriers in global carbon markets and facilitate seamless trading while ensuring data sovereignty. Key participants included regulators, technology providers, and corporate buyers, with a focus on expanding access to grassroots levels. The design was discussed in four working groups, leading to commitments for pilot implementations.

On March 19, 2026, IIM Bangalore's Centre for Digital Public Goods convened a roundtable to design the Open Network for Carbon Markets (ONCM) in anticipation of India's Carbon Credit Trading System (CCTS). The ONCM aims to eliminate barriers such as fragmented registries and pricing opacity, enhancing India's global carbon market participation.
It focuses on enabling easy access for small farmers to monetize carbon credits via simple digital commands. Key stakeholders included regulators and technology providers, discussing market mechanisms and regulatory frameworks across four working groups. The roundtable concluded with a commitment to initiate pilot projects for the ONCM.
