IIT Madras Launches IITM Global to Enhance International Research and Innovation Partnerships

On December 2, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras launched IITM Global, an international research and innovation platform aimed at establishing the institute as a multinational university. The initiative was inaugurated by External Affairs Minister S.

Jaishankar in Chennai, coinciding with the IITM Festival Fortnight. IITM Global is designed to facilitate joint research, startup collaborations, academic programs, and technology commercialization, enhancing IIT Madras' global footprint.

The institute has signed multiple MoUs across various countries, including three in the United States, one in the United Kingdom, and three in Germany, focusing on research partnerships and talent exchange. IITM Global will initially set up a presence in the U.S., Dubai, Malaysia, and Germany, with plans for further expansion.

Key research domains will include data science, quantum computing, and health technology. In 2023, IIT Madras became the first IIT to establish an international campus in Tanzania.
