Inauguration of Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant Enhances Vietnam's Energy Security
The Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant, inaugurated on April 18, represents a $2.2 billion investment in Vietnam's energy sector. With a capacity of 1,200 MW, it aims to ensure stable electricity supply for the central region and boost local economic growth.

The Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant, located in Ha Tinh, was inaugurated with a total investment of 2.2 billion USD, developed under a build-operate-transfer model. The plant, with a capacity of 1,200 MW from two turbines, is crucial for providing stable electricity to the central region and nearby areas, supporting industrial, agricultural, and service development.
Launched in 2007, it faced challenges including storm damage but is now operating at nearly 90% capacity. The project, involving Mitsubishi Corporation and Korea Electric Power Corporation, also focuses on advanced boiler technology and carbon capture solutions. Its annual tax contributions are expected to enhance local economy and public services.
