India Establishes AI Governance Group to Assess Job Impacts and Strategy
India has formed the AI Governance and Economic Group (AIGEG) to oversee AI policy and assess its impact on jobs. This strategic move aims to align AI deployment with labor market realities and develop a roadmap for the next decade.

The Indian government has established the AI Governance and Economic Group (AIGEG) led by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to coordinate AI-related policies across various departments. This body will assess the impact of AI on the labor market, identify job roles at risk of automation, and develop transition plans for workers over the next decade.
The AIGEG will also review existing governance mechanisms and issue compliance guidelines for companies. A Technology and Policy Expert Committee will support AIGEG in navigating global AI developments and regulatory challenges.
The group is tasked with creating a 10-year roadmap for AI that factors in regional differences and the informal labor sector, crucial for addressing India's unique workforce dynamics. The establishment of AIGEG formalizes earlier recommendations from India's AI Governance Guidelines and the Economic Survey.
