This decision, part of the 2026-27 Union Budget, aims to expand nuclear energy capacity and enhance collaborations with foreign partners. It also aligns with India's goal of achieving 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047, backed by a ₹20,000 crore Nuclear Energy Mission for research and development.

The Indian government has extended customs duty exemptions on imports related to nuclear fuel and reactor components until September 30, 2035. This initiative aims to reduce project costs and support nuclear energy capacity expansion.
Announced in the Union Budget for 2026-27, this measure is expected to facilitate collaborations with foreign partners and enhance domestic participation in developing indigenous 700 MW reactors. Additional funding for the Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) focuses on research in new nuclear technologies. The policy supports India's long-term vision of 100 GW nuclear capacity by 2047, with a ₹20,000 crore outlay for a new Nuclear Energy Mission.
