Indian Army Approves MPATGM Procurement to Enhance Infantry Capabilities
The Indian Army's approval of the indigenous MPATGM marks a pivotal shift towards self-reliance in defense. This move enhances operational readiness and mitigates supply chain vulnerabilities associated with foreign procurement.

The Indian Army has approved the procurement of the Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM), developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Bharat Dynamics Limited. This third-generation missile, featuring 'fire-and-forget' technology and a sophisticated Imaging Infrared seeker, allows infantry soldiers to engage armored threats with high precision while minimizing their exposure to enemy fire.
The MPATGM's design supports operations in varied environments, enhancing effectiveness in high-altitude and extreme temperature conditions. This procurement initiative is part of India's broader 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) vision, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign arms manufacturers and secure a stable domestic supply chain.
The integration of MPATGM is expected to significantly reduce engagement times against enemy vehicles and facilitate a gradual transition from older systems. The transition to indigenous production reflects the advancing capabilities of India's defense-industrial landscape.
