India's Infrastructure Growth: Civil Aviation, Power, and Telecom Lead in FY2026-27
India's infrastructure sectors, including civil aviation, power, and telecommunications, show significant growth as reported by MoSPI. The civil aviation sector achieved a 10.6% increase in passenger traffic and a rise in cargo handling, while power capacity is set to increase substantially by 2035-36.

India's civil aviation sector reported a passenger traffic of 7.1 crore and cargo handling of 7.3 lakh tonnes for FY2026-27 (up to May), marking a 10.6% increase from the previous year. The telecommunications sector saw a 3.7% year-on-year growth in infrastructure, totaling 8.55 lakh towers and 32.25 lakh Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), with tele-density reaching 93.26%.
The power sector anticipates an increase in energy storage capacity to 94 GW for Pumped Storage Plants and 80 GW for Battery Energy Storage Systems by 2035-36. Digital tolling in the Road Transport and Highways sector experienced a 39.7% increase in electronic toll collection transactions, totaling Rs 88 crore.
The Ports sector reported a 3% YoY growth in India's fleet, reaching 1,592 vessels, as sea-borne trade rose from 76 million tonnes in 2015 to 145 million tonnes in 2023. The continued growth across these sectors emphasizes India's commitment to enhancing infrastructure and connectivity, which could attract further investment and improve economic resilience.
