Huntington Ingalls Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding division is actively developing designs for a new battleship and a class of frigates as part of the Navy's Golden Fleet initiative. The shipyard has 13 ships currently under construction and 11 additional vessels under contract, reflecting heightened naval demand due to global conflicts.
Ingalls has delivered the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer Ted Stevens (DDG 128) and is preparing for further ship launches, including a christening planned for this summer. The workforce is being expanded through partnerships and an apprenticeship program with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, promoting career paths in shipbuilding. Increased production capabilities are vital to meeting the Navy's strategic needs, given current geopolitical tensions.
