Inverclyde Council has partnered with the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and West College Scotland to develop a marine engineering centre of excellence at Inchgreen. A memorandum of understanding has been signed to create a full business case for the project, which may receive £20 million in UK Government funding announced in December 2025.
The centre is intended to provide research capacity and skilled job opportunities in marine robotics, naval architecture, plating, and welding. An £11 million upgrade of the marine park was completed in March 2025, supported by £8.4 million from the Glasgow City Region City Deal.
The second phase of enhancements, costing £3 million, was approved earlier this year. This initiative could significantly improve local employment and skill development in the region.
