Investigation of Space Debris Found on Queensland Beaches
The Australian Space Agency is examining six pieces of suspected space debris, potentially hazardous, found in Queensland. The items, identified as 'space balls,' may contain toxic materials from rocket launches, raising safety concerns and underscoring the growing issue of space junk.

Six suspected pieces of space debris washed ashore at Forrest Beach, Queensland, are under investigation by the Australian Space Agency. The objects, large spheres resembling pressurized fuel vessels, may contain hydrazine, a toxic rocket fuel, and are believed to have originated from rocket stages.
The Queensland Fire Department reported five objects secured and one undergoing safety measures. Authorities indicate that while no immediate danger exists, further debris may appear. The presence of such space junk highlights the increasing frequency of space launches, with more occurring in the past five years than historically, posing challenges for debris management.
