Ironhouse Sanitary District Finalizes Solar Power Agreement to Cut Energy Costs
Ironhouse Sanitary District has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with REC Power for a new 1.5 MW solar system. This project is projected to save $16 million over 30 years for wastewater services in Oakley and Bethel Island.

Ironhouse Sanitary District will add a 1.5 MW solar photovoltaic system to its existing setup, enhancing solar generation capacity. This initiative, managed under a 30-year Power Purchase Agreement with REC Power, aims to significantly reduce energy costs, projecting a total savings of $16 million over three decades.
The current solar facility, operational for nearly 13 years, contributes 1.1 MW and meets 42% of the facility's energy needs. Construction of the new system is expected to commence in 2027, with operations beginning in 2028. The project highlights a strategic move towards sustainability while addressing rising utility expenses.
