Israel to Achieve Nationwide Water Network Connection by 2031
Mekorot plans to connect all of Israel to a unified water network within five to six years, enhancing water security amid rising challenges. This initiative is crucial as Israel faces demographic growth, climate change, and ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting water supply stability.
Mekorot aims to establish a comprehensive water network across Israel, expected to be completed in five to six years. The company, which provides approximately 65% of the nation's water supply, is currently constructing new pipelines to connect regions including the Golan Heights and Judea and Samaria to the national system.
Mekorot reports an annual investment of approximately NIS 1.5 billion in water infrastructure and operates about 20 desalination facilities. Recent geopolitical events have tested the water supply system, but Mekorot continues to ensure distribution to both civilian and military needs. The focus on enhancing infrastructure is critical as Israel's population grows and water resources become increasingly scarce.
