ISRO to Conduct Three Uncrewed Missions Prior to Gaganyaan Human Spaceflight
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans three uncrewed missions leading up to Gaganyaan, its first human spaceflight. This initiative is critical for the development of necessary systems and operations for successful human missions.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman V. Narayanan announced that three uncrewed missions are set to precede the Gaganyaan mission, aimed at human spaceflight. Currently, work is focused on the first uncrewed mission, with timelines and further details to be revealed later.
Mission operations are emphasized as vital, particularly for long-term satellite functionality, like the 15-year operation of communication satellites. The Mars Orbiter mission serves as a reference, requiring nearly 300 days of operational oversight.
Challenges include human-rating the launch vehicle and developing new systems such as crew escape and environmental controls. The ongoing International Conference on Spacecraft Mission Operations will feature approximately 400 technical papers, benefiting students and industry professionals.
