The Italian Ministry of Defense has confirmed the appointment of Mykhailo Fedorov as an advisor for defense innovation. Fedorov will maintain his role in Ukraine, focusing on defense projects while providing insights on unmanned systems and technological advancements.
His previous tenure as Ukraine's defense minister included significant drone operations, with over 800,000 verified attacks recorded in 2026, showcasing the critical role of UAVs in contemporary warfare. Italy is also seeking an investment of €8 billion from the European SAFE fund to bolster military capabilities. This strategic collaboration may enhance Italy's defense technology landscape, especially in the UAV sector, following recent approvals for joint ventures in drone production.
