Itochu and Partners Study Bio-Based CO2 Liquefaction from Waste Incineration in Saga City, Japan

CARBON CAPTURE

Itochu Corporation has partnered with Saga City, Itochu Industrial Gases, and Nippon Ekitan Corporation to explore the liquefaction of bio-based CO2 captured from waste incineration at the Saga City Clean Center. The study will assess the technical, regulatory, and commercial viability of purifying, liquefying, storing, and transporting the CO2 for industrial markets.

The Clean Center, which started in 2016, is the first facility in Japan designed for carbon capture from waste incineration and has been used for local carbon recycling efforts. The partners aim to develop a carbon recycling model to stabilize CO2 supply in Japan.
