Japan Grants $26 Million for Phnom Penh Sewage Infrastructure Improvement
Japan has committed 2.77 billion yen ($25.9 million) to enhance Phnom Penh's sewage infrastructure, addressing flooding issues. The funding will support the construction of a wastewater treatment station, crucial for improving urban living conditions in Cambodia.

Japan is providing Cambodia with a grant of 2.77 billion yen ($25.9 million) aimed at improving sewage infrastructure in Phnom Penh. This funding will facilitate the establishment of a wastewater treatment facility to manage effluent before it enters Choeung Ek lake.
The signing of grant documents by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn and Japanese Ambassador Masahiro Mikami is scheduled for Thursday. Municipal authorities plan to initiate the project following the completion of the Memorandums of Understanding. Local experts emphasize the necessity for additional measures to protect waterways and prevent future flooding, highlighting the limitations of relying solely on foreign aid for infrastructure development.
